Released January 16, 2026

We shipped several new features designed to help coaches build plays faster, keep playbooks consistent, and reduce repetitive work when drawing and editing plays.

Below is a breakdown of what’s new and how each update helps you coach more efficiently.

What’s New

Multi-Select Players and Field Notes

You can now select multiple players and on-field text notes at the same time to perform grouped actions.

This allows you to save time by making changes once instead of repeating the same steps over and over.

You can use multi-select to:

  • Update multiple player colors

  • Change letters or numbers for multiple players

  • Adjust action lines and player alignment

  • Move, resize, or recolor multiple text notes together

How to use multi-select

  • Click and drag to select multiple players or notes

  • Or hold the Ctrl key and click on individual players or notes

  • Apply updates to all selected items at once

Stencils for Faster, Consistent Play Creation

Stencils help you save time and create consistent-looking plays across your playbooks.

Football Play Card includes 75+ football-specific actions, including routes, blocking, rush paths, and coverage zones. Stencils allow you to group these actions together and reuse them with just a few clicks.

Stencils are ideal for:

  • Route concepts like Smash, Dagger, and Flood
  • Run and pass blocking schemes
  • Defensive blitz and stunt packages

How to Create a Stencil

  1. Add actions to multiple players
  2. Hold the Ctrl key and select the players or click and drag over multiple players
  3. Select Play → Save Stencil
  4. Enter a stencil name and select Save Stencil

How to Add a Stencil to Players

  1. Select two or more players
  2. Open the Stencil menu from the drawing toolbar
  3. Select the stencil you want to apply

Stencils are context-aware, which means Football Play Card automatically knows:

  • How many players are selected
  • The side of the formation
  • Whether they are on offense, defense, or special teams

You will only see stencils that apply to the players you have selected.

Official Support for 7on7 Plays

Football Play Card now officially supports 7on7 plays.

When creating a new play:

  • Select 7on7 from the Field Type dropdown
  • The field will automatically display 7 players on offense and defense

This removes the need for workarounds and makes it easier to build accurate 7on7 playbooks.

Show or Hide Offense and Defense on the Field

You can now control which players and coverage elements are visible on the field. If you select to hide the defense, then you only need to select the offense when creating a play. If you select to hide the offense, then you only need to select the defense when creating a play.

To access these settings:

  • Navigate to Settings → Field Options → Player Layout
  • Toggle visibility for:
    • Offensive players
    • Defensive players
    • Defensive coverage zones

This is especially helpful when:

  • Teaching position-specific concepts
  • Creating clean visuals for installs
  • Printing wristbands or play sheets

Why This Matters for Coaches

These updates are designed to help you:

  • Build plays faster with fewer repetitive steps
  • Keep your playbooks clean and consistent
  • Teach concepts more clearly with better visuals
  • Adapt easily for 7on7, flag, and skill development periods

Who Benefits Most

  • Pro, College, High School, and Youth Tackle and Flag Football Coaches
